Vestri named to Team USA for World U20 Championships in Finland

Amanda Vestri (Webster, N.Y. / Iowa State) has been named to Team USA for the upcoming IAAF U20 World Championships.  The championships will take place July 10-15 in Tampere, Finland.
Vestri will compete in the 3000m in Finland.  At the USATF Championships two weeks ago in Bloomington, Ind. she finished fourth and originally thought she had not qualified for the team as each country may enter two athletes in each event.  It turned out that the second and third place finishers did not have a time fast enough to meet the IAAF entry standards and thus Vestri was promoted to an active entry in the world championships.  Vestri will be joined on the 3000m starting line by her Iowa State teammate Callie Logue who won the event at the USATF Championships.

In Amanda's words
It feels surreal because I’ve always dreamed of representing my country in this sport and the fact that all the tireless hours of hard work payed off just makes everything more special. I could not be more honored to wear this jersey across my chest and I’m very much looking forward to giving my best effort in Finland and hopefully walking away with a big PR and a great experience.
During her prep career at Webster Thomas High School Vestri finished fourth in the 3000m and 11th in the 1500m at the 2017 NYSPHSAA State Championships and was a 4-time qualifier for the NYSPHSAA Cross Country State Championships, placing ninth her senior year.
