McMahons Shine at Rainy USATF Masters 5 km Championships in Atlanta

Results

Three members of USATF Niagara showcased their talents at the 2025 USATF Masters 5 km Championships held on October 19 in Atlanta, Georgia. Facing top masters runners from across the country, each Niagara athlete finished among the top five in their respective divisions. The 5 km championships were the penultimate event in the year-long eight-event USATF Masters Grand Prix circuit.

Amy McMahon of Williamsville, New York, representing Checkers AC, led the Niagara delegation with a 4th-place finish in the women’s 55-59 division. McMahon clocked 21:29, earning an impressive 81.77% age-graded score, which ranked her 13th among all women in the age-graded standings. Her strong performance in Atlanta also secured her the season-long title in the women’s 55-59 division of the USATF Masters Grand Prix circuit, capping off an exceptional year of racing.

Her husband, John McMahon, also of Williamsville, delivered a strong showing in the men’s 55-59 division, placing 5th with a time of 18:03. His performance earned an 87.17% age-graded mark, the 8th-highest among all male competitors. The result also clinched him third place overall in the USATF Masters Grand Prix standings, with the possibility of moving up to second place depending on final race results later in the season.

Brian Cummins, of Venice, Florida, competing for the Syracuse Track Club, placed 5th in the men’s 70-74 division. Cummins crossed the line in 22:10, good for a 78.65% age-graded score and 45th overall among men.
