The 2025 USATF Marathon Championships were contested yesterday (December 7) as part of the California International Marathon in Sacramento, where Joseph Whelan (Webster, NY) delivered the finest performances of his career. Whelan raced to a 2nd-place finish, clocking 2:09:41, a 2-minute, 47-second personal best. The result capped an exceptional year for the 35-year-old, who impressively completed five marathons in 2025 (including 2:12:29 at the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, 2:18:21 in Berlin, 2:12:56 in Ottawa, and 2:12:16 in Boston).
Making her marathon debut, Gabrielle Orie (Orchard Park, NY) turned in a strong first showing, placing 58th in 2:37:09 as she tested her talents over 26.2 miles for the first time.
