Brignall, Piraino, McMahon, Byler Shine at Niagara 10 Mile Championships in Syracuse

Results

The 2026 USATF Niagara 10 Mile Championships were contested Sunday as part of the renowned Mountain Goat Run in Syracuse with standout individual performances and tightly contested team battles highlighting the association championships.

In the Open Men’s division, Hunter Brignall (Bergen Elite) claimed the individual title in 51:18. Thomas Appenheimer finished runner-up in 53:20, while Kenny Goodfellow (Roadkill Racing) rounded out the podium in 53:50. The team competition saw Roadkill Racing defeating Bergen Elite by just over four minutes. Roadkill Racing totaled 4:50:47 behind scoring performances from Goodfellow, Aaron Nobles, Justin Bender, Jordan Brouk, and Jack Broderick. Bergen Elite finished second in 4:55:15, led by Brignall along with Josh Koeppe, Lazarus Gleason, Kyle Sobon, and Richie Merriam.

The Open Women’s race featured a strong performance from Lindsay Piraino (Roadkill Racing), who captured the individual title in 1:00:52. Masters standouts Trisha Byler and Maura Tyrrell finished second and third overall in 1:01:25 and 1:01:33, respectively. Roadkill Racing secured the women’s team title with a combined time of 5:16:46, averaging 1:03:22 per scorer. Piraino and Byler were joined on the scoring squad by Elizabeth Bender, Rachel Arcuri, and Laura Galeazzo.

The Masters Men’s championship used age-graded scoring, with John McMahon (Checkers AC) delivering the day's top performance with an impressive 85.55 age-grade score after running 1:01:49 in the M55-59 division. Mike Nier (Genesee Valley Harriers) placed second overall at 84.25, while David Putney (Checkers AC) finished third at 83.15. In the team standings, Syracuse Track Club narrowly captured the Masters Men’s title with a cumulative 380.25 age-grade score, led by Chip O’Hara, William Hoyne, James Foster, Doug Wood, and Tom Byers. Genesee Valley Harriers finished a close second at 379.01 behind strong performances from Nier and Michael Mertens, while Roadkill Racing 369.47) and Checkers AC (368.25) completed a tightly packed top four.

The Masters Women’s division also featured exceptional age-graded performances. Trisha Byler topped the standings with an 81.08 age grade, followed closely by Maura Tyrrell at 79.81 and Jenny Keenan at 79.79. Checkers AC claimed the Masters Women’s team championship with a dominant 380.75 cumulative age-grade score, averaging 76.15 per scorer. Tyrrell and Keenan were supported by Jennifer Boerner Selig, Mary Lebrun Schultz, and Wendy Guyker in securing the title. Genesee Valley Harriers placed second with 332.97 points, led by Elizabeth Matthews and Brenda Osovski.
